Like a LadyLike a Lady, a play directed and written by AUP Literature Students took home home three awards – for best play, best director, and best actress – at NYC’s Strawberry One Act Festival.

Like a Lady is a one-act play written by LCA major Jorge Franco IV. The play premiered this August at New York City’s Strawberry One Act Festival under the direction of AUP graduate (also LCA) Chauncey Alan. The play was written under the mentorship of AUP Creative Writing professor, Jeffrey Greene.

At the festival, the play took home three awards for Best Play, Best Director and Best Actress as well as a nomination for Best Actor. The Riant Theatre, the company presenting the festival will be publishing the play and helping to sponsor Jorge’s next project in 2015.

Jorge says this about the play:

Like a Lady is about displacement. When a homeless woman of London’s Underground saves the life of an American expat, an unexpected relationship blossoms. The play allows the audience to spend a night underground in a world where elegance and pride are valued above all things.
